Help,

I know this is taking the forum over but I have just purchased a Denson Gateway 500 and want to know what is the best source of wiring/connecting the unit. Should I link into the CRM sat nav dvd unit or should I use the MOST ring for the CD multi changer (I do not have the multi changer unit fitted). If I were to use the multi changer wiring which I believe is built into all cars including the MOST ring where is the wiring hidden on at RHD car. I don't want to start stripping the front end! The car is a 997tt and finally any links/pictures would help.

Thanks

Not sure about RHD. Here is where I put my unit under glovebox! Easier to put in trunk, tap into Bose or Nav. but i-pod wire run inside is a little difficult and Aux USB off/on switch is in trunk.

I have an 06 997S

Fitting a Gatway 500 is very easy! I just put one in my Boxster.

The newer gateway units come with two fibre plugs. So you just unplug the fibre connection from the CD changer and plug it into the Gateway unit (car side). Toy can extend the fibre using one of the supplied cables if you need to but you have to fit the femail plug. Then plug the other fibre (supplied) into the Gateway and loop it with a connector (supplied)! i.e join it together!

The Gateway replicates the CD changer in a Porshe and you can't have both.

Then all you have to do is connect the power. I just stripped the feed wires to the CD changer and soldered on there.

I mounted the Gateway in the trunk with some long wire ties and tieded up the cabling. I punched four holes in the trim behind the plastic and fixed it there. That way when I come to remove it no one will know it was there! The ipod is also in the trunk as well (you don't really need it in the car and running the cable in through the firewall is a pig to do).

It sounds great! BUT you can't search for a song. Only by Album, Artist and Playlist.

BTW the iPod HAS to be playing a track when you connect it! From then on its OK but I found that it won't start playing initially! Had me foxed for a bit!

electrical wiring for CD player on a LHD car is tucked under the carpeting in the trunk. Remove the plastic cowing over the area where the Nav or CD player is usually mounted and then peel back the carpet a little where the bulhead meets the fender. It's probably on the passenger side- it's that way on the US cars. It's a short wiring harness with a plug at the end that isn't plugged into anything (since you don't have the CD player)

this thread has everything you'll ever need to know...
