'02+ Bose, Different Amp And/or Settings?

Recommended Posts

I have a Bose stereo in my '03 C2. I had my amp replaced last week because my stereo would intermittently "freeze", and not turn on.

Now, the stereo turns on just fine, but it sounds strange. Sounds like all highs/mids, with little bass. From this, 2 questions:

1) does a head-unit need to be "coded" for Bose after a new amp is installed?

2) does the Bose system have a different amp?

Thanks, any ideas appreciated,

Scott.

My understanding is that the main amp powers the front, door and rear speakers, and that there is a line level output to the bass enclosure, which has it's own amp. One possibility is that the connection to the bass enclosure didn't get seated properly.

The amplifier firmware was also updated at the end of '03. One comment I read said that one of the changes was to make the bass "less boomy," so I guess it's possible that it's just a difference between the opld amp and the new amp.

Since you are getting the high/mid sound, it doesn't sound like there's an issue with the HU or amp being coded properly.

Hmmm.

I'm still getting bass out of the "enclosure". Perhaps it's just the change between the older "boomy" amps and the new one. IMO it sounds terrible, especially on CD. Backing the treble down to about neg-4 and upping the bass to +3 seems to make it a bit more bearable.

I have an 03 C2 with Bose and I have the Base at +9 but the key is to set the fader to -6 or -7 this way the front speakers don't drown out the sound from the back. So when you make it loud the bass is much more noticable and balanced with the speakers in the front.
