Anyone buy this DTRL mod?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I found this mod on Ebay Daytime running mod from Europa Auto Parts.

Anyone buy this? Or is it the same as the hack that can be found in the forums? I really want something that will turn on the driving lights (position 1) rather than the main beams.

Another question, anyone have any problems with the hack? I have no problems doing it, as long as I don't end up frying something else. :P

Thanks for helping a newb!

That ebay thing can't be real daytime driving lights, as you would need the double relay and the thing would have to be wired to work. Parts alone would be much more than $10 and it would take longer than 5 minutes.

Most likely it is this simple thing, which you can do yourself. http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/mods/drl/

Yes, the fuse in that slot is empty, so you have to add it if you don't have heated seats. If you have heated seats you don't have to add a a fuse because it is already there, it doesn't make a difference. Go ahead and try it it only costs like $1 in parts so then if it doesn't work you're out $1, and if it does work you saved $10.

I figured as much. And $16 to ship, not excessive at all.

Ok, so there is an old topic on this where Badcow found a way to make the driving lights work. So the question, anyone done it, had any problems and do the main beams still turn on with the switch? I really don't want the main beams on all the time as I was told the headlamp plastic will turn color over time and the bulbs burn out much faster.

QUOTE:

This mod seems to activate the main beams (second position of light switch). Anyone know how to only activate the parking beams (first position of light switch)?

Maybe kind of late, but if anyone is still interested, I did it today. Use the instructions at the link above and make the changes as below.

I changed the wiring. I made a "Y" with two female connectors wired into one female connector. I used 3 fuse taps, 3,4 & 6. See the picture. This turns on the side markers and the front running lights when the ignitition is on without using the headlight switch.

That ebay seller has been around for a while. They sell a spoiler switch kit which you can make yourself. A wiper dial kit you can make yourself. And the best is a top relay so you can operate the top when moving - you can do that yourself by bending one of the pins on the relay.

I once emailed the seller to ask if they were just bending the relay pin and got no response. I once emailed asking for the instructions for the wiper dial and got no response - wanted to see if it was a rip-off of Felker's hack. Ended up getting the instructions from someone on this board who bought the wiper dial kit, and it was a rip-off of Felker's hack.

The seller has nothing that you can't do yourself.

I have the instructions from Whall because he bought the ebay kit and sent me the instructions. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...47&hl=wiper

The ebay instructions really just tell you how to hook up wires - not make the thing. I bought the parts a year ago. Did a quick install to see if the wiper dial and relay worked. It did. Then took them out so I could put together a neat install that would look like factory. But never got around to finishing the project.

The guy who came up with this wiper dial hack is Dr. Felker. It is his site that is now down. He has posted a few messages on this board. I printed out the instructions last year to see if I could improve on them. I will have to hunt around and see if I can find them.
