RemoteTop SmartTop Issue

Recommended Posts

I just installed Smart Top and Remote Top in my 99 996 Cab. Both units seems to work well, except for one thing.

When I want to just unlock the car when the alarm is on, the remotetop is opening the top. I just press the remote for less than a second. The top opened in 2 out of 3 times.

I think if I needed to use the remote to open the top, that I would need to hold the remote for a second or two. That does work also.

The only thing that I think that could cause this, is that I needed to change the battery in the car last week. I am not sure if that had something to do with this. I only installed the smarttop and remotetop for about 2 weeks now, so I do not have a lot of experience in using it.

Also, my front windows roll up after the top opens, is this normal too?

Can't comment on the effect of your battery change. My batt change had no effect on my Smart Top or Remote Top.

You are correct in that the design calls for the top to lower only if you hold down the unlock button for several seconds after the unlock. The top should remain in place if you are simply pressing and releasing the key fob button in a typical unlock manner.

Porsche designed the windows to raise after the top has been lowered (front windows only). At least, mine behaved that way before installation of these after market modules. What the SmartTop does for you is allow the small rear windows to be raised (if you so desire) after lowering the top. Without SmartTop, 996's 2002 and older cannot raise the quarter windows with the top down.

Look at the bright side, you don't have to hold the buttom to open your top. :D

I actually have the same problem with my RemoteTop; and I didn't change the battery. Since I bought the RemoteTop because of the Lock/Unlock when driving/pull key and the chirp when lock/unlock, I disabled the remote top up/down function.

However, I think this maybe related to the chirp function being set "on". You may want to turn off that function to see if the top still comes down when unlock.

The chirp function also affected my window... didn't close all the way. I turned off the function and re-enable the remote top function. All functions are working fine except for the disable chirp function.

Thanks for the help. I actually disabled the chirp and at least the top does not open when you disarm the car. All items seem to work, except the comfort one-touch does not work to open the top. I need to hold the button the whole time. It is funny that the one-touch does work to close however.

I guess I will have to live with it.

I don't see why you would. These folks bent over backward when one of my modules acted up. Sent the replacement first, so that I would only have to open up the access once when I pulled the old one out and put the new one in.

Give them a call.
