Hello Guys,

Very unpleasant experiance this morning.

Coasting on the expressway for about 45 min and out of the blue at 75 mph i press the gas and there is no response.

I pull over and shut the car off, turn it back on and nothing, its like the car is in neutral

I tried it in manual mode and still nothing.

AAA is towing it to my mechanic - but im still freaking out.

Any ideas ?

Thank you

Thank you for the quick response

Any idea what could bring the trans to go into "limp mode" ?

LOL... probably a hundred different faults.

It is done to protect the transmission from damage and to keep the car "safe".

You will need to get the fault codes to see what is really going on.

I got a call from the mechanic stating that the durametric did not give any transmission fault codes. (he does not have a PST2 or a PISIW) he is not a Porsche specialist by no means.

But he did tell me that "limp mode" usually leaves the car in one gear to make it drivable.....yet in my case it seems as tho its in neutral and will not move what so ever.

Any DME fault codes?

Did you hear any noises?

I assume from your comments that the engine runs and revs fine?

DME fault codes were for a Oxigen sensor and a vacuum leak upstream (i was going to fix it but didnt get a chance yet).

No noises that i would consider out of the usuall.

engine runs and revs, trans fluid seems to be at normal levels.

he suggested a bad pump in the trans but thats only his thought with no special scanners involved.

"3c Emergency mode(old workshop manual)

The electronic transmission control unit switches off the solenoid valves when specific signals or circuits

become faulty and thus prevents gearshifts. If this occurs while the vehicle is in motion, 4th gear

is selected regardless of the selector lever position and remains activated until the vehicle comes

to a stop. When restarting the vehicle or after selecting reverse gear once, only third gear remains

active.

have your mechanic check the shiffter and its position switch ,,,

The problem is that this doesnt describe what happened to me.

while in motion , the car did not responed to acceleration - as i said , its as if its in neutral and will not go into gear at all.....and the weird part is that it become that way while in motion. even when i reduced speed , it did not down shift .

Hi.

Looks like a dead torque converter to me... but you should have a P0740 fault code...

If it's a torque converter problem, it can be rebuilt be any good transmission mechanic.

The tiptronic is a conventional ZF transmission 5hp19 model that was installed in Passat and audi A4.

Good luck

The car was towed to a Porsche specialist in my area that will be able to give me a more specific diagnosis i hope.

I will update as soon as i get a phone call.

also to add to this, the mechanic who initially checked the car confirmed that the linkage is in good shape and the car will come out of "Park"

Update : Car was tested with Porsche Special Tool. according to the tech the initial scan gave him a fault code with the speed control wiring, he cleared that code and started the car and shifted into drive and still nothing, he then put it in tiptronic mode and it jumped to 4th gear right away but the car still wouldn't move anywhere. He scanned for fault codes again and this time it was the Speed Control itself not the wiring.... He says that its been giving different codes every time he scans it.

He said that he will let me know if he gets more info tomorrow.

That is todays update.

Update : Scan with a PST2 shows. DME CODES P1130,P1128,P0410,P1411,P1576

TRANSMISSON CODES 36 AND 91

my mechanic told me that he believes its a bad torque converter as well , he had also told me that the transmission recognizes the RPMs from the engine yet nothing happens. he did not mention a P0740 code

He advised on replacing the transmission, do you guys have any ideas for a cheaper way to take care of this?

Hi

Like I said, If it's a torque converter problem, it can be rebuilt for under $1000 be any good transmission specialist.

The tiptronic is a conventional ZF transmission 5hp19 model that was installed in VW Passat and AUDI A4.

In this link tou will find all the informations about ZF 5hp19

ZF 5HP19 parts

That sounds much cheaper , but there is the possibility that its not the torque converter with the stated information??? my Indy shop tech told me and i quote "the tarns is dead" :(

Take your car to a transmission specialist before spending any money in an Indy shop.

It could be as simple as a failing pump gasket. BTW a complete rebuit is about $2000.

Good luck

So in your opinion it is better to send the car to lets say AAMCO than to keep it at an indy?

The transmission specialist could repair it, but the Indy shop will certainly replace it... your choice...

This is what i was told by the indy shop - "not all parts for the repair may be available to buy" making it not possible to fix....is this a possible circumstance or is he trying to go the easy route and the most profiting for him??
