Second garage opener?

Recommended Posts

I've installed my garage opener using a sunroof switch. (I have an '04 C4S Cab) I would like to install a second switch for my electric gate, but I've run out of available blank spaces. Are there any dual-function switches I could use, or is there any other place I could utilize? What about the blank to the left of the light switch? I tried to use the sunroof switch for both applications, but I only manage to get either one of the remotes to work using all possible combinations of the 4 contacts in the back. I would appreciate any input--there must be others out there with the same issue.

Loren would know if the switches are different or not.

An easy way to do the 2 openers on one switch is if the gate and your garage are not near each other just wire your gate switch exactly to the switch the same way you did your garage opener. When you press the button it will activate both openers, but since they are not close to each other it will only one open.

Thanks, Itzkirb, for the e-mail. I will try different combinations of the wires into the single switch---if it worked for you, it should be OK. Unfortunately, I am getting a new windshield today after a rock from a passing truck cracked it...oh well! (only 350 miles on my car when it happened).

Kirby, it worked! I had to switch a few of the leads around, but now I can control two openers with one switch. The most difficult part was finding enough room in the dash for both openers.

My next project will be to swap my rear center console--I ordered a new one and had my local body shop paint it midnight blue. I'm waiting for the paint to cure before tackling this one. :)
