PSE install parts question

I got a great buy on some PSE's off Ebay and would like to hook up the electronics to them. Please don't tell me not to bother because I'll love the sound, it's too difficult, etc., etc. I've had bypass pipes on for the last 3 years and I know how it sounds. :thumbup: However I'd like to install the switch so that when my wife is riding with me or I receive a call from the office, I'm not struggling to hear.

I have attached the following list from the PSE TSB.

Is there anything else I might possilby need in anyone's experience?

If I order all of this, I would not need the kit sold by Carnewal, correct?

(click on electronics, PSE switch under P96, then retrofit install kit)

Any ideas about the parts that do not have numbers (spacer sleeve and retaining bracket)?

Lastly, does anyone have this stuff laying around and want to part with it.

Forgot to add. The PSEs I bought were the first generation style. The one with the 1 3/4" or so bypass pipe. Does that make any difference to the PSE TSB instructions?

Unless they are damaged or rusted you can reuse the sleeves from your existing mufflers. Same with the hanger brackets. My PSE mufflers came with brackets so I just bolted them on - but since these came from eBay you will have to see if the muffler hanger brackets came with.

The dash switch is not included in that parts list. You will have to choose whether you wan the the one for the left side of the console or the right side.

I suggest you wire a switch from the fuse box, to a switch, directly to the solenoid, bypassing the DME for full control. On/off at will.

My switch is in ashtray.

I agree. That is the way I did mine. I found a small rocker switch that actually fit in the "but snuffer" in the ash tray and took my power from a switched source in fuse box to the rocker switch, then to the solenoid. I simply turn the PSE on and off at will. The other wiring to the DME etc. only complicates everything, and controls the PSE by engine speed etc which is unnecessary. The wiring is the most time-consuming part of the job, especially getting the wires from engine bay through large wiring grommet into the rear of passenger compartment.

So if I do it how your're suggesting, do I need the vacuum lines, vacuum reservoir, etc. Sorry I just don't quite understand. My mufflers arrive tomorrow, so once I actually get them, it will make more sense. Thanks for the help.

Yes you need the vacuum lines and t's, you tap into the brake booster I believe, no additional reservoir, and all accessory vacuum piping to the solenoid.

instead of the large included electrical harness you only need several wires to fuse box-switch-solenoid and a ground. We used a few wires of the original harness and capped the rest.

Since the original harness had the plug on it for connecting to the electric solenoid, I used it and just used the 2 wires (1 for power, one for ground). I attached the ground near the DME unit in rear of passenger compartment, and then joined a new wire to the power lead and extended it to the switch in ash tray in console. Then I ran a wire from fuse box (via a fuse of course) to the switch.

All the wiring does is activate or de-activate the solenoid, which in turn controls the supply of vacuum through the tubing to the diaphragms on the mufflers.
