How can you tell if the sport exhaust was fitted in a 997

Recommended Posts

Dear members,

I just bought a 997 MY 2007 C4S Cabrio with Sport Chrono Plus, but I don't know if the sport exhaust were fitted. If I press the sport botton I can hear a change in the sound, which become definitely louder and bold. Are there any other ways to check this feature?

Thank you

montego is right, if your tips look like the pic I have attached you do have the sport exhaust especially if you hear the 'ROAR' after you hit on the sport button.

wow... I guess I have the sport exhaust... the pipes are of different size!!!! :-)

Now you need to see if it was installed at the factory or afterword. Many afterword installations don't install the electrical parts so it can't be switched on or off. Typically those installs just install the mufflers and neglect the control wiring/electrics since it relatively tough to do. They don't utilize the vacuum solenoid in a dynamic fashion . . . . . The mufflers are always in the 'loud' state.

Simply do a search on this forum or 6speed.com and you'll find numerous threads regarding the PSE.

Just be careful. The Highway Patrol officer who issued me my first speeding ticket in the Little Green Monster said, that he HEARD me first! And I don't even have the Sport exhaust!

I have a 987 3.2 S. The sport exhaust wiring is almost identical on the 987 to the 997 , the only difference being the control solenoid position and its wiring route. Retro fitting the control wiring and getting the rear ECU (DME) to control it can be done by the home enthusiast , but requires coding using the porsche PWIS workshop tool. A durametric device doesnt have this capability. The official wiring loom from porsche is expensive if the car doesn't already have sport chrono , but a manual pushbutton switch can be installed as a simpler and more direct control. This overcomes the issues with the factory setting adjusting the PSE back to quiet mode between 20 and 40 mph.
