You should read some of the posts about adding a third party NAV system.

Chances are you will need the reverse signal which is under the drivers seat (for NAV). CDR-220 can only help with radio, amp, speakers (depending on your car's options.)

Here is the MY02 CDR-220 wiring layout.

Check out this thread from the Boxster forum:

http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=19074

The whole thread is interesting - but long - so look at post #20 to begin with. I used trieullionaire's kit to install a Pioneer AVIC-Z3 in my MY02 Targa. Trieullionaire is great to deal with and is a good source of information for the install.

The only snag I found in trieullionaires basic installation instructions was that they didn't adddress cars with an external amplifier - either M490 or Bose. I had to add several additional wires/pins to direct the audio output of the Pioneer unit to the Bose amplifier in my car. It's easy enough to do if you are anticipating the need. (You haven't let on whether or not you have a standard or optional [M490 or Bose] audio system.) Otherwise, you should not have any problems with your upgrade.

I, like most others I've heard about, did not bother hooking up the reverse sense wire and haven't seen any nav accuracy problems.

To date the only problem I've had is deleting the Pioneer logo and trademark information from the start up splash screen. (I uploaded a Porsche logo to the start up slpash screen and the Pioneer logo conflicts.) There is a procedure for deleting the Pioneer logo but I think it entails removing the AVIC hard drive, hooking it up to a lap top computerr and "managing" some files. Until I can get a step by step set of instructions, I'll pass.

Hi guys

great reading these posts.... currently doing something similar but i am not installing a double din unit for NAV. The nacv unit i have is a single in becker, which also requires reverse signal.... my 996 is 1999 model based un the UK and my passenger mirror does not drop when i engage reverse...... so will i still find the reverse signal wire under the passenger seat... and if so what colour is it?

thank you again
