I have a 2009 C4S (my first Porsche) that I purchased in late April. It is my daily driver and has a little over 7000 miles on it. I have had to put over 4 quarts of oil in it in three months. Is this the normal rate of oil consumption for these cars? To me that seems excessive. I drove a Datsun 280 ZX eleven years and 180,000 miles and never had to put a single quart of oil in between oil changes.

The manual states that at least during break in, it should consume about 1 qt per 1600 KM. (Mobil 1 0w40). I forget which manual states that but it was an official Porsche pub. I keep a case at home and a qt. in a zip lock baggie in the trunk.

Check your Owner's Manual - in the technical section. (In the MY07 Owner's Manual, page 328, the latest issue I could find.)

"Engine oil consumption.............up to 1.5 liters/1000 km, (1.6 quarts/622 miles)"

OR, 1 quart per 389 miles!

Your MY09 is a newly (re)designed engine, so best to check your Owner's Manual....although 4+ quarts in 7000+ miles desn't even come close to the above allowance.

Nothing unusual about your car's usage, and your right it is not comparable to the oil usage in your "Z", but your 997 is a lot better car in comparison isn't it? A little oil consumption is a small price for the qualities we all enjoy in our cars!
