Any reliable shop in the SF bay area

Somehow I just don't have enough trust for Rector or Carlson. The last one ripped me off $7K for the alarm control unit, two mirrors and a clutch, saying the 2rd gear problem was the clutch. Thanks Bretto..That put them on my never-deal-with-again list.

This 1999 C2 seems to be my on-going nightmare. Thinking of trading it for the 997 S perhaps later.

Need a recommendation of any porsche mechanics that can take a look at the transmission.

thanks!

I spoke to Peter Smith at Stevens Creek Porsche yesterday, who I have known for 5 years. He confirmed they do not rebuild the transmission because you cannot get parts for a 6 speed. He also said some special press is needed to remove a bearing and he did not know of a shop that had it.

If you luck out with rennwerks or rmg you might make an appointment with Stevens Creek. Tell them you want Peter to look at your car. Then tell Peter you are the guy I mentioned to him. Jeff Lopez.

Thanks guy. The car is in Rector for the A/C now but I will definitely ask your friend to look at it. It's sad that they cant fix the trans. Looks like the only way is to replace the whole thing which is expensive. Perhaps the new 997, if I can convince myself.
