Squeeky Hard Top Boxster S

My new-to-me 2001 Boxster S has a hardtop. Car only has 25K miles and drives great.

I have some minor squeeks on rough roads. Anyone know how to adjust or tighten the fit? Or does the top seal just need to be lubricated. The top installation kit was installed by the dealer by the PO.

There are adjustments on the hardtop, I remember searching it a few weeks ago

Thanks--I searched under hardtop and didn't find anything, but adjust hardtop brought up several good threads.

mine squeaks a bit too, and I tried all the adjustments I've read here. So Before I install every fall, I spray some food grade silicone spray onto a rag and wipe all the seals / gaskets thoroughly. this seems to take care of them. no need to remove the top, just release the front latch and lift up slightly. Hope this helps.

The mounting points for the posts (on the top) that insert into the spin locks are adjustable. There are removable plastic panels that snap on/off, located behind your shoulders. Removing these panels, you should be able to see how adjustment is possible. You can make adjustments to up/down and side to side. I found on my top that if I tried to adjust the top as tight as possible that it actually made more (a lot) noise, so there seems to be a balance of not to loose not to tight as far as squeaks and creaks are concerned. I still have some minor squeaks but I am going to try conditioning my seals this year and hopefully that will eliminate the remaining noises.

I’ve heard good recommendations for Gummi Pflege rubber seal conditioner. However they recently changed the formula for this conditioner so I’m not sure if the older recommendations still apply. It is/was available through BMW dealers as well as online.

had the squeak appear on my hardtop this year. do not use silicone or tire spray as they can contain adulterants and both the dealer and i concur that in most instances it increases squeaks. dealer and i both recommend using Silglide. and slathering the stuff on all contact points on both car and top. use your fingers to get all up in there. do not lick fingers afterwards. let it sit a moment. wipe off any heavy excess but do not remove too much. go for drive. smooth like butta.
