I would say easily less than $20k I was trying to sell my 996 2000 cab with the 3.6 conversion and it was amazing what people were offering me (not very much.)

I have seen cars like you described going for $17k. The poor 996. Not what she used to be....

I was looking at KBB and Edmunds - they are saying the same thing.

I found another with less than 50K miles on it.

So am I nuts to even consider a 996 with 50,000ish miles?

I have a 986S that I convereted to a race car...want a C2 as a daily beater :D

Edmunds.com provides a more realistic value.

Pricing with your first mileage value is - Trade-in: $15,144; Private Party: $17,204; Dealer: $19,723

I would strongly encourage you to spend $300+ to get a pre-purchase inspection on any vehicle. Well worth it!

As you know it's a crap shoot with the early M96 engines. I had one 996 that would have run forever and another one that blew with 70k on it. I guess when you can get one that cheap (as you can today) you could do Jake Raby's IMS upgrade to have a bit more piece of mind.

Also make sure the transmission works perfectly. You don't want to get whacked with a transmission replacement. ($7k.) :censored:

There are many many people who have never had a problem and then the percentage that have.

I don't have to tell you this but just make sure you do a leakdown test and all the other measures ( pre purchase inspection) if you decide to buy. Also consider replacing the water pump as a preventative measure.

I personally will never have another Porsche without a warranty.

Knowing the history is everything!! The cars the pull low dollars have a bad history. I would stay away from 99's. Nobody really know for sure whats going on with the M96. My 03 996 will be going down to Jake next spring. One thing is for sure, don't run the M96 with low oil. You're asking for major problems!! If you baby the engine you may live to regret it. Tach it up once it's warm and run it like you stole it! NEVER sit on the highway in 6th gear turning 2700 RPM. Go buy the book Porsche 996 The Essential Companion. It's got a really good section about the M96 motor. Unbias. Good luck with the purchase. E :drive:
