Front suspension clunk

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell where i should start looking for a clunk noise that is coming from my front suspension. I have the X74 spor suspension purchased from GERT on a 996 Targa and every time i go over a speed bump, up or down the driveway where there is a steep gradient i get a clunk noise coming from either the left side or right side fron suspension. I only have about 10,000 miles on it. Any suggestions would be great.

I would start with looking for loose swaybar mounts or upper strut mount bolts.

thanks Loren

I looked at the upper strut mount bolts and the look pretty secure, as for the front sway bar can you let me know what im suppose to look for?

Look at the swaybar mounts to the chassis - you will likely need to remove the plastic belly cover.

Loren could they be the drop links? I have read some post from others and said that cured their clunk noise going over bumps and up driveways. I checked everything you told me and they all seem fastened to me and nothing loose> any suggestions on how to check the droplinks and could this be the cause of my noise you think. what else can i check bedsides the drop link. Again my X74 was just installed this past March and have only put about 10K on it.

Yes, as I said inspect all swaybar mounting points.

Loren checked all swa bar mount bolts all seemed to be tight and secure, however I did go back to check the upper strut mount bolts and there seems to be a slight gap, and they also do not match up with the lining left buy the original bolts. Is this a problem?
