OBC Hack - Help Needed

Recommended Posts

ok--

I'm trying to complete the On-Board Computer (OBC) Hack to enable the OBC on my 2003 Boxter--

But, it seems I'm unable to bypass a software instrument fault using the new System Tester to get to the OBC options to enable it.

I swapped out my Radio last year for a new DVD/NAV system. Doing so obviously created a Fault in the computer for the instrument Panel & AC (since the old radio talks to both)... No big deal-- except, I did not have the dealer enable the On-board computer beforehand.

Now, with the new touch screen System Testers, the dealer seems unable to bypass the fault to enable the OBC. They think it's possible with the old PST2 testers-- I obviously do not own one and the dealers don't seem to have them anymore.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Putting the old radio back in is not a viable option...

Here is a picture of the old PST2 -- If you have one & live in Northern California, please let me know!! :)

Both Tool Pants and I have one.

Tool Pants is in San Jose and I am in Roseville (near Sacramento).

Awesome!

Hopefully Tool Pants will bring it to the Work on Cars event tomorrow.

Otherwise I'll come up to Roseville and treat you to lunch! :)

Thanks Loren!

** Update **

Tool Pants brought his System Tester to the work on Cars event-- he was able to do what the Dealer claimed would not work and enabled the OBC.

It turns out the Option Code Spec was missing from the computer. Once we enetered it, we were able to access and enable the OBC. The software faults on the Instrument Panel & AC (from the radio change) were non-issues.

Now that the OBC is enabled, I'll order the parts.

If anyone is having a similar issue and needs more details-- let me know.
