Good Morning All

Just recently purchased my dream car from a private party,05 Carrera Coupe 02/05.

Car has 16,000mls.My last Porsche was a 1984 Carrera Coupe.Boy what a difference.

I'm mechanically inclinded, having to work on English cars, growing up in the uk.

I would like to do my own work ie servicing etc.

Unfortunatly I here alot about this year,I.M.S failure and so.I've been advised that at some

time I will need to replace the engine, arround 30k miles or so?

Is there anyone out there that has high mieage with no problems.Or should I not worry and

enjoy the car,I would like to give it some welli [stick] once in a while.

Would very much appreciate some feedback.

David

Drive it and enjoy it!! (and don't baby it.) There are a lot of DIY's here for the 996 that are the same as the 997. Brakes are super easy. Filters easy.. Serpentine belt easy... Exhaust mods easy..

Change your oil at least every 5k miles. Your car has such low miles see if you can get and extended warranty from Porsche. The 05's are prone to engine problems but your engine could last forever..

Do a search here for lots of great DIY's. Also there is a maintenance checklist uner "DIY Menu" at the top of the page.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new toy!

Thanks for the advise Phillipi

Also nice to see that I'm not the only F1 follower in Cal

My wife and I also enjoy Motorcycle Road Racing.

Long live the TT.

I've got over 40K miles on mine, and the only problem I have with it is adhering to the speed limit! Like philipj says, drive it hard, and leave the short grocery store trips to the family Toyota or Honda. Cheers, and welcome to the forum.

David,

Yes I'm a fanatical F1 fan as well as Moto GP and Superbike (really any kind of motorcycle racing.) I love the Le Man and GT series as well. The season is over now and I will be going through withdrawals for awhile. Nascar just doesn't do it for me

Congrats on your new car. I have an 06 Carrera S and I love it. It's sooo much fun. I have done some maitenance already such as oil change, air and cabin filter, cleaned my throttle body and swappped out the stock headers for the X 51's.

If you are going to tackle any DIY's a PM me and I will share what I know. Not a lot of 997 DIY's with pictures yet on the forum. Luckily most things are the same as the 996.

:welcome: :drive:

It's said that Miatas and bugeye Sprites are fun cars. Sorry, but they just don't hold a candle to our little monsters. And please translate the term "welli". I take it to be slang for "Wellington" (the boot), and that's exactly what I give mine more often than not. Kick it around four Grand (that's where the torque and bhp curves cross) and hang on!

I am a big F1 fan.

I go to Ferrarichat for there comments.

I have been to Mexico and Italy.

My brother wants to go to the F1 in Brazil.

I still want to see the 24hrs Le Mans.

Awesome! :D I have been to the Malaysian F1 GP and actually rode shifter karts there on a shortened version of the F1 circuit. I'm planning to go to Assen next year for Moto GP. And I guess this has to do with Porsches (Loren) because they go fast too!! B)
