Alarm System Issues!

Recommended Posts

Tonights my night for questions i guess!!!!

I noticed that the LED on my dash was doing the Doulble blink thing when the alarm was set. After reading the manual, I've come to the conclusion that one of the switches, (sensors?) isn't setting, therefore the alarm isn't setting. Any ideas as to how to diagnose this?

I'm sure I'll have more questions as the night progresses!

Well I've done a little more digging. No I'm not pushing the button twice, and I have a feeling this problem may have been on going prior to my getting the car, because at NO TIME do I hear any horns, bells whistles or anything! Almost like the alarm horn has been disconnected. Although the lights do flash. I also noticed that if I'm sitting in the car, and set the alarm with the push button on the key, it seems to set properly, meaning the LED flashes repeatedly, slowly. but as soon as I more, the lights start flashing, like the alarm has been triggered.

Check the alarm horn (near battery). Given tidbits about this car in other threads, I would also be suspicious  of a disconnected/broken horn.

I'm trying to figure out if it the alarm horn is bad. Replaced one on a local 1997 Boxster a few years ago. When his alarm went off the lights flashed but there was no beep beep. But I do not remember if he had the double blink on the LED before I replaced the horn.

If i trigger the alarm, the lights flash as they should, but no horn at all. If I set the alarm while in the car with top down the LED flashs in a single flash pattern, That is why I'm wondering if the problem is in the infrared sensors. I assume they are behind the two ovals by the dome light. But if I set the alarm with the top up, and the move in the car, the exterior lights start flashing as they should, but NO horn! I'll check to see if the alarm horn was disconnected in the morning. Thanks for your help so far!!!!!!

I had what sounds like the same problem on my 98 Bosxter. I found that the alarm horn was disconnected. When I reconnected the horn it turned out to be bad. I took the horn apart and I believe the coating of the coils had swelled sufficiently to keep the horn from working. I replaced the horn (less than $15) and it works now.

I think I have the problem narrowed down to 2 different, but related issues! I'm now almost 100% the false alarms are due the infrared sensors, as I can set the alarm using the double lock method (thus shutting off the infrared sensors) and the indicator light flashes properly, and the alarm seems to work properly, and next I'm willing to bet the previous owner unplugged the alarm horn because of the problem. I'll know in the morning, if the guy next door doesn't leave a note on my car again!
