996 rear seat back installation

Recommended Posts

Hi there Porsche fans,

I am piecing back together a 2000 996 Carrera 4 and need help with the rear seat backs. The hinge pin located on the center tunnel of car seems to be too short to mount both sides. Is there a piece that I'm missing (an adaptor or extension or something). Then the outer hinge, I could use a picture to show how that mounting bracket is put in. And then it looks like i'm missing both pins that hold and lock the seats in an upright position. Any idea where I could get those? or a part number?

And finally, i am also re=installing the rear seat belts. Can someone tell me how the release the tension on the belts? they are all wound up and I can't pull them out. They seem locked in. Help!

Thanks.

Roch.

Your rear seat parts should look like this.

Thanks Loren! That answers that question. I am missing a couple of parts.

Any idea how to unlock the seat belts? I popped off the covers to reveal the inner workings and it looks like a swiss watch in there! There seems to be a piece (white) that sits on the outside of the sprocket. On that piece is a small counter weight that actualtes a small lever that locks into place to prevent unwinding. I'm not sure of the position of this piece. Any help is appreciated.

Roch.

It looks like the guts bolt to the body. Maybe unbolting it will help.

Probably too late for this post but anyway, it depends on the angle that you hold the mechanism. There is a small ball weight inside of the mechanism that triggers the lock when shifted. If you are holding the mechanism incorrectly, the weight of the ball causes the activation. You must hold the mechanism such that the belt unwinds in the upward direction.

Does anyone have part numbers posted in first schematic on this post? I am also reinstalling seats and I am missing a few parts.

Yes, give model and year of your car and which item numbers you need.
