Hi,

My 05 CTT started failing this week; when at a stop the engine would just stop, lights on everything working fine. I would notice by the RPM at 0, put it in neutral and fire it up then go on my way. The CEL fianlly came on and I have a service appointment but I wanted to find otu if this is a common thing.

I was in service abotu a month ago and got two new MAF's (they claim due to BMC air filters), but that's a whole other saga. I have not put new gas in (half tank) so I don't think it's fuel related. I have notice idel being a little different at times; some times 950, others 650, but there is no warning when it happens.

Any thoughts would be great.

I don't have a Duramentric (yet) but it's going in on Friday. The idle seems to be off at times as well. I'll post the outcome here.

I'm just waiting for the dealer to try to say it's my fault, but that's another story.

Cheers

Well it turns out it's the crank shaft position sensor. I don't know how much these are but I am surprised such a little thing can cause the whole engine to die.... I guess it's the price you pay for soooo much electronics

It happens a lot with MB engines, too - enough so that MBUSA did a recall on them for one of their engines. It's probably a Bosch (the German version of Lucas Electrical) part.
