Reversing passenger mirror issues

Recommended Posts

My 2002 996 TT Tip has the reversing parking aid passenger mirror which is a great help in Edinburgh with the HUGE kerbs in the City. Unfortunately it has a mind of its own, sometimes it works for days on end then all of a sudden stops working. There are no fault codes whatsoever - I have read the manual over & over to make sure I am setting the memory seat / mirror perfectly. When I do reset the seats the mirror works fine, as soon as the car is left off for a period it doesnt dip on restart & reverse. PLEASE can someone shed some light.

My 996tt lost the mirror dip on reverse as well but also the parking sensor and rear revers light did not work. Turned out to be the Gear selector linkage switch pack had gone defective.

Do you still have the parking sensors and revers lights?

Parking sensors & reversing lights are both perfect! I was wondering if the memory for the mirror reversing was being lost every time the car is locked but even that is not true - there is no common thread as to when it does or does not decide to work except if the ignition is left on for ages (when it is being valeted etc) Immediately after a situation like that it works!!

Mine has stopped turning down altogether when selecting reverse although memory seat and mirrors still work, and reverse lights.

I would also like to know what the possible cause is and how to fix.

One check to make first.

Sometimes the gear selector switch pack fails, it stops the reverse parking sensor working ans also any other revers related feature. It took a while for me to associate all the faults to the one single action. Check your reversing light, reverse sensor and mirror dip at the same time.

I had to have a new switch pack, cost about £700 fitted. Ouch.....
