parking brake problem

This morning I went to put my parking brake on and it felt like it some how slipped. I put the handle back down and tried pulling it again. The second pull had normally operation but the handle traveled almost all the way back. The brake is holding but the amount the handle travels is almost 4 times more then it use to. Any thoughts as to what happened? Hope everyone is enjoying their last few days of summer driving.

Sounds like your brake cable may have slipped (or even broken.) There is a DIY on "how to adjust your parkeing brake". Do a search for that and you will see instructions. You access the cable by removing the floor of your center oddments compartment. You lift up the rubber abd you will see a screw to remove.

This is a pretty easy adjustment once you get to the cable and lever.. There are adjustments on each rear wheel too but that doesn't seem to be your issue.

You are going to need to investigate further.

The handbrake handle inside the car has two cables that connect to it to a turnbuckle.

One of these may be broken or not connected.

If all is okay there then you need to check inside the rear rotors for parking brake shoes (where the other end of the cable attached to.
