Reservoir coolant cap replacement ?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have a 2002 911/996 C2 which has the 'original' reservoir coolant cap. I was recently made aware that this cap should be replaced with a 'newer' version cap. The one I have is 'blue' with part # 996.106 447.00

does this cap have to be replaced and why , what are the symptoms ? If so, what is the 'new type cap' and what is the part # , and where do I get it ? I called my local porsche dealer and the guy asked me "why do you want to replace that cap " ? HELP huh.gif

I just replaced mine this weekend. Popped the lid to check the oil and noticed the crust. You should be able to look at the catch area of the tank or see the obvious crust on the cap. Mine was an -01 cap and it leaked so I would take Loren's advice and replace with an -04 version.
