Okay, I just picked up a 2001 996 Cabriolet and ended up finding a part loose in the area the top folds into... can anyone tell me what this part is and ideally where it went? ;) The top seems to be functioning fine for now.

Part # 996-561-061-02

It appears to be a hinged cover with a plastic arm attached to it.

That is your left side "cabriolet cover flap", part #21 in the following parts diagram:
