Anything speical to do when changing clusters?

Recommended Posts

I think I read that the battery needs to be disconnected so the airbag light doesn't go on? Also when the dealer transfer the milage over..does he do that with the computer PST2 from the port, or does he hook something up to the actual cluster?

Just the OBDII port (PST2). They will transfer your mileage, settings (US miles, temperature, etc.), and VIN. PST2 will then transfer the information into the new cluster (after it's in your car) and the dealer will record it in PCNA's database.

Are you putting a new cluster in, for some reason? Do not have to disconnect the battery to swap the cluster.

In fact you can just hook up any old style cluster to your 1999. If you hooked up a replacement cluster that has zero miles then it will still be zero miles in your car and work just fine. PST2 is not needed to 'turn on' a cluster. The mileage is stored in the instrument cluster.

PST2 is needed, like Loren said, to enter your VIN and the actual mileage and transfer over the info to the new cluster. There is no Porsche or DMV approval needed. I do not think PCNA would know about a cluster replacement unless it was done under warranty or there is a record of non-warranty work at your dealer. Jeff
