RoW to US (California) spec

Recommended Posts

I own a 2006 997 Cab 4S auto that is a Rest of World (RoW) spec ie Left hand drive with gauges in Kilometers, (but digital in Miles).

I've owned it here in the EU for over a year but am anticipating moving back to California later this year.

I am under the impression that it would not be too difficult to get it up to California specs and that it might simply be a matter of some tuning via the ECU or some such.

Can anyone shed some light on this subject or point me to some online resources? Any suggestions on an importer to use?

Can/will Porsche do this for me?

Thanks

Where in the EU are you? I don't have the answer to your question but I had a 2005 997S for a few years when I lived in Germany... sold the car there locally and bought

a 2006 997S Cab (with 8k miles) when I moved back to the states and pocketed about $10k from the exchange (not sure how the market is these days but it is very likely

you can buy the same car in the US and save lots of money and avoid all the charges for shipping and making it compliant)

Good Luck!

You make a very good point... I'm in London and my guess is that it is worth about £40K, (£38K on a bad day), so that would get me $60-65K at the current exchange rate... I might well be able to save myself a big hassle...

The car was a gift from a weathly friend, so am concerned that my wife will give me a lot of **** if I have the cash and spend it on a replacement... She woulkd expect me to downgrade and spend the extra cash on house/her car, etc...

unless there are some sentimental issues moving car to USA from Europe makes no sense whatsoever ( I imported Cayenne from US to Europe and even after paying all taxes, shipping, insurance, homologation it still came out to 20% cheaper). it will cost you $2-3k in container to CA, "or some such" may cost you $$$ unless you want to DYI ECU (only you know if you can). Front lights may need to be changed as they have E stamp as oppose to "DOT" (even if they are identical lights), rear lights need to be changed as turn lights in the USA are red and in Europe they are yellow. Mirrors have to be changed.
