Noise from front end

Recommended Posts

Gee, 2 problems in one day..hope this is not a trend. I have a loud whistle/whine noise coming from the front end of my car (as far as I can tell, it is the front, it's hard to determine). The noise is loud enough to hear over the normal engine/exhaust sound. It does not seem to be related to engine speed or braking. The noise appears at around 20mph and remains constant. When decelerating, the noise stops abruptly once I'm back down to 15-20 mph. I thought it might be related to my trunk lid problem (see other post) but this is not the cause. Anyone have a guess? (radiator, coolant line?) Thanks.

When I first got my 99 996 the same thing happened as far as the whistling noise at 20-30-40

Take a look at your trunk hood. Make sure the alignment is pefect all the way around the two sides and front. Does one side of the trunk hood sit lower in the channel looking at it low and straight on from about liscense plate height? If so, adjust the rubber stops on the inside of the trunk hood until alignment is exactly equal and flush to the front bumper. I don't have the specs about what the spacing should be.

Once I aligned the hood to fit equally on both sides the whistling noise stopped.

According to the technical section of the PCA web site the front lip of the front bumper should be slightly higher than the front edge of the hood (NOT even) and that failure to have this set up can cause some wind noise.
