Problems starting up

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a 2004 C2 cab with a replacement engine that has worked flawlessly for 1.5 yrs and done about 8K miles... In the last few weeks I've had two occasions where I could not start the car - engine turns over fine but the engine never fires. Today when this happened it had been idle for about 2 hrs and was still warm - I belive the othert time this happened the engine was still warm. Eventually I lightly taped the gas and it started. I drove a mile or so, parked, then then when I got back in the car it was fine - fired right up.

A few weeks ago I had an issue where I could not pump any gas into the car from any (3) pumps I tried. That probelm also cleared itself and I checked the solenoid/ fuses on the evap at this time - I've read this can cause these issues.

One more thing, I put a bottle of Techron through the car about a month ago because I'd been buying no-name gas.

Any ideas?

Simon

Are there any DTCs from the computer (do you have a code reader? Or just go to autozone and they will pull the codes for free). Then post them back here.

Sounds fuel or electrical related, but there are a lot of other reasons why it wouldn't start.

Ignition switch, among a few others are pretty common.

Would be interesting if someone else chimes in about the fuel pumping issue being co-related.

These cars are fuel injected so pumping the gas really does nothing. Not like a carbureted car where there are actual pumps in the carburetor. However if there is a fault in the electronic throttle I guess a push on the throttle might do something.
