Upgrade PCM1 8bit --> PCM1 16bit

Recommended Posts

Hello !

I have a 996 C4 from 11/2000, PCM1 8 bit.

The aim is to change the nav reader (ref xxxx.00 EFR) to 16bit reader (ref xxxx.03 EFR).

As the PCM is stricktly the same on 8 and 16bit nav equipped cars, it seems swapping the reader should be ok. (software update needed ? PONA642 ?).

Actually, I can buy the inside of the nav reader straight from Siemens (mechanical part (cd eater) supplied with the onboard chip fixed on it.).

Should work ?

Will the code still be the same for navigation ?

I appologize for my english skills as I'm French :-(

Thanks !

I think you are correct, that the 16-bit navigation drive is compatible with the early PCM head units. As long as the navigation software reads PONAxxxx (not POIExxxx) then you should be OK to use the Opel NCDC/NCDR maps. However, you must run a Porsche 2002-1 map first. This does a software update, required for the Opel maps.
