Help! Dashboard replacement after deployed passenger side airbag?

Recommended Posts

I am planning to buy a 2008 Cayman with a light front end collision. Both airbag are deployed. Do I need to replace the dashboard because of the deployed passenger side airbag? If so, how expensive will be a new dashboard?

Thanks for your help.

Dashboards are not cheap and the cost can vary by what type of material is covering the dash i.e.leather. I had to replace the dash from a front end dual airbag deployment ten years ago. I had a leather covered dash replaced and that was $2,000 just for the part at the time without the air bags so figure for inflation $3,000 plus not including air bags which will be expensive and installation of dash and air bags.

The passenger air bag broke mine. Are you sure the dash is broken? You can see it by looking at the gap between the dash and the passenger pillar. My collision shop missed it and I pointed it out to them.

A light front end collision with both air bags deployed? Have you had the frame inspected by a collision shop? Be very careful you could have tens of thousands of dollars in repairs ahead of you.

Keep in mind that especially high end cars have significantly diminished value because of a collision. Most Porsche buyers will not even consider buying if even in a fender bender. So unless you get a substantial discount of at least 50-60 percent of the value I wouldn't touch it. Just my .02 worth...
