Extreme vibration in rear suspension

Recommended Posts

Mine is an "01" S. I recently replaced rear wheel bearings and CV boots. No problems with disassembly or reassemble. Followed DIY entry by "seafeye", great help. First test drive presented with very serious car jolting vibration at 59mph. Did not stop until I stopped the car completely. 2nd try at 52mph, same thing. Prior to this the ride is smooth, no shake, rattle, or vibration. Rechecked all nuts, bolts, torques. Nothing was off. 2nd test drive, same thing at 56mph. Made it back home and parked. Any ideas on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Before diving into other possibilities I would try to remount the wheels. Pay very close attention that they are mounted square and flush.

I've misaligned wheels before and experienced what you describe. All it takes is just a very small amount off square.

Thank you logray. I remounted the drivers side wheel, no more major jolting. All that's left is a very faint vibration, which I feel sure the 4wheel alignment will take care of. Thanks again.
