996 RMS and IMS Failure Questions...............

Recommended Posts

Ok so now that Im on here doing more research and reading up on things and my parts supplier stating that my next project Ill want to tackle is the IMS Bearing, RMS Seal and since Im there the AOS!

Anyways Im hearing alot of conflicting and much debate information........

Tiptronics are less prone to failure compared to manual?

Use thicker oil than factory recommended? If that may be the case what Mobile 1 oil should I go with?

Is this something that can be done at home or is a shop recommended?

Can your insurance company cover you for engine failure?

What are good signs to look for of a failing IMS? Noise? Amount of Leaks?

Location of the IMS and RMS? Is it in the bell housing? Motor/Tranny?

Thanks in advance.
