Installing Factory Look NAV/DVD

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had an aftermarket NAV/DVD system installed that looks close to factory. I wouldnt mind going aftermarket, I just want to have an embedded screen fit instead of a pop out. Would rather it look like the PCM as much as possible. This is for my 99 996.

Thanks

This is the only aftermarket fully indash system I've seen.

I've not seen one in person so I couldn't tell you how well it works.

If you want to add the factory unit check out LA Dismantler. They have a complete retrokit for the factory PCM I

The price seems decent on the retrokit, at least to me.

Let me know which way you decide to go, I'm thinking of doing the same.

Joe,

Another option you may consider is installing a small (5-6") LCD screen where the cd/cassette tray inserts are normally located. I've seen a few installs like this & they look real sharp if done by a shop who knows their stuff. You might need to relocate your central air controls above the stereo depending on your year/model. Also, you'd obviously give up your center storage space.

The navigation system (processor & DVDs) would be located in the trunk or could be part of the headunit if you were to swap the OEM unit.

Anyway, just another option.

Good luck.

Beware of the LAPorsche Dismantler offer. I bought the retro unit for $ 1700.00 and (A) did not recieve all the pieces, and (B) received wiring that was missing ends © video unit has scratch on face, etc., (D) took a month to receive Will never purchase there again!

Joe,

Someone, somewhere on this forum has done it. I've seen a photo of what I can remember, a red car that was either a Boxster or 996 cab. I saw it when browsing the forums when I joined.

(Well, there's only 21 thousand posts to browse again... )

They had installed a monitor in the dash that looked like an in-dash touch screen with a nice silver frame that seemed to mach Arctic silver interior parts. I'll have a look over the next few days!
