Older cars are not equipped with an electric soft close system, it depends on MY. You can check it by removing the trim around the lock catcher, you will see the electric motor than.

Check the fuses-if OK check the microswitch-if OK check the retract motor for open circuit-if OK check the wiring for pos. and ground, the wiring may break inside the grommet on top of the tailgate door ones in a while. If everything is OK, a diagram is recommended to continue, a PIWIS in "fault find mode" is even better.

Hello! Check, please, right side fuse block, find F30 - it must be at least 25A fuse. Most cases it burnt, but it must be some cause for this. Please check area of spare wheel, isn't wire harness jammed by wheel or not. Then check right side luggage pocket. I rather obstacled with clients, which hides over there some heavy things, in turn, these things might damage wire harness which passes through this pocket area. Also check rear window switch. Is it in working condition or not. It may cause to fuse burnt too. Any question, do not hesitate contact me. Good luck!

I had the same problem with mine, would close on the catch but not 'pull in'. Would drive off and get the boot open warning light. You may have done this already but check there is no debris underneath the little flap where the mechanism slots into. I had a small stone stopping it closing properly.
