Replace my Water Pump?

As per usual I've booked my car in for a routine "coolant flush" and came back with an estimate for $000's. This is the same Porsche specialist who quoted me $2000+ to fix my soft top and it was fixed by myself over a period of time for approx $3-400.

They've sent me a picture of the water pump (attached) and I can see there is some leakage, but I feel just replacing the gasket would suffice to stop this leak I think replacing the entire pump is a bit OTT.

Just looking for some feedback as to whether or not the pump is past its sell by date or not. If it needs replaced not an issue, but after the soft top repair I am dubious about what exact works is needed and what is to bump up their bank balance.

Replace the pump. These pumps use a composite impeller that erode over time and fill the small cooling system passages with small plastic bits that cause hot spots and no end of problems. And do not use a metal impeller after market pump; along with not living very long, they develop shaft wobble (as all water pumps do) and start boring a hole in your alloy engine case. Use an OEM pump.

Many Thanks for the fast feedback I assume the price quoted $320+ for the water pump is OEM, but I will double check with them first.

I've done this by myself. Be sure you keep the coolant in the radiator. If not it will damage the engine.
