2004 Cayenne S Starter Removal Help

Recommended Posts

I am planning on replacing the starter on my 04 Cayenne S. I cannot seem to locate anyone that can answer these questions:

1. what are the torque settings and order for the air intake manifold bolts?

2. any suggestions from someone who has done a starter on removing the bottom bolt from the starter? It appears to be buried under the starter..

help..please..anyone?

FYI for anyone attempting this. I did it over the weekend, the top 3 coolant line MUST be removed. The starter will not come out. Complete removal is not necessary, you can drain out some of the coolant and remove the bolts and line from thermostat housing and lift them up slightly to get the starter out and new one in.

I just did it this weekend.

The starter CAN come out with the 3 pipes in place.

There is one caveat however.  If you have the metal pipes installed, the clamps on the large lower hose must be in proper position.  You need to make sure the one towards the front of the engine has the screw section above, below, or on the drivers side.  If it is on the passenger side, it will interfere with the rotation required to finagle the starter out.

The good news is, a small box wrench can get in there to loosen and adjust the clamp without taking anything else apart.

If this doesnt make sense, I can post a sh!tty MS paint explanation
