How to replace or service the Parking Brake Switch?

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this had been covered, but couldn't find any reference. The parking brake switch on my MY2000 C2 cab has been working intermittently and sometimes preventing the cab top from opening or closing. I can tell that it's the switch because the associated dashboard light doesn't light when this occurs.

Where is the switch and what needs to be done to gain access to it?  Also, some have suggested that it might just need to be lubricated. Is that a reasonable fix or should it just be replaced given its age?

Thanks in advance,

Bill

An updated switch came out in late 2000.

You will need to remove the center console to get to the handbrake and switch.

The B&M short shifter install instructions are excellent for the console - they include step by step and photos.

You can download them here (in the Downloads section) or directly from B&M.
