PDK/Brake Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I purchased a 2010 Boxster S last fall and took it to the track for a DE event today.  I only ran two sessions, and got 12-15 minutes in per session before running into an issue.  Both times the problems showed up the same.  FIrst, the transmission emergency mode showed up locking me in second gear.  Next, within a few seconds the car lost brake assist.  The brake pedal could be pumped up, but after lifting off the pedal, the boost would dissapear again.  After limping off the track, within a few minutes the problems went away and the car appeared normal again.

The car is a 2010 Boxster S, PDK.  Running stock other than Pagid yellow pads, running on track in "Sport Plus" mode with the PDK in "Drive".  Second session, I delayed onset of symptoms by driving more conservatively.  Ambient air temperature was about 60 degrees.

All in all, a rather disappointing experience with my first on track time in a Porsche.  Any suggestions for a cure?

Thank you!

PDK overheat could maybe be the problem your experience with the transmission.

Regarding the brake problems. First I would check if your brake fluid is good enough. Check level, but more important check if boiling temperature is within limits. Unless the specific track is very brake demanding I would not suspect brake fading from overheated brake rotors and pads. But of course old pagid pads and worn out rotors could give you the symptoms you describe also.

+1.  You are overheating the PDK and probably boiling the brake fluid due to moisture build up.  Get your brakes flushed, and do a preemptive PDK service (clutch and gearbox fluid change), both should help.

  • 4 weeks later...

No update, I got a recommendation from a local mechanic to change the brake fluid to Castrol SRF.  I'm giving that a shot and probably a PDK service as recommended too.  Then hopefully back to Miller in June.
