Carrera 4S Rear nearside drive shaft diff seal leaking

Recommended Posts

Did mine a while back, not too much of a hassle. Unbolt driveshafts and remove the splined shafts outwards being careful not to catch the splines on anything. I gather they are very prone to chipping if knocked. My car is a C2S so not sure if you need the same seals or not but mine were 997.332.803.01 and 997.332.804.01 @ £10:53 each, if of help? I have now replaced the seal but am mystified by the fact that when I removed the oil level plug on the gearbox a lot of oil poured out ? There is also a much higher oil level plug on the offside of the diff. There is only one drain plug which is on the bottom of the diff so I assume that the gearbox and diff oil are connected so why is there a lower level plug on the gearbox which appears to drain oil from the diff ? Could it be to do with the 4 wheel drive system and the gearbox oil level plug should be ignored ? I have refilled the oil in the diff to the top level plug. Anyone know about this ?
