You won't find it in public literature since the 955 is an internal code. There was an article in last months Pano or Excellence talking about naming and numbering and a brief history about it (all cars and why it is done). Obviously, the Cayenne doesn't have anything to confuse it with but when you say you have a Carrera then it gets sticky so there is the internal naming system used by enthusiasts so as to differntiate which model you are referring to. Obviously, this is my brief take on the article and it does a MUCH better job of explaining it.

I heard it has something to do with the engineering project number Porsche assigns a new project when its being built. I dont think 955 has any signifigance, its just a number

955 is just the part number series used by Porsche for the Cayenne. It is not the "type" number, as in 986/987 Boxsters or 996/997 Carrera's. The type number for the C-S is 9PA AE1 and the type number for the C-T is 9PA AF1.
