Exhaust mount failure...

Recommended Posts

The exhaust mount bracket that is ABOVE my 2000 Boxster 5-speed Sport Exhaust has failed recently. This has happened before, around 2008, which I got fixed, and it has held up until recently. I have been tracking the car since late 2013. Car has been out on the track about 28 times. In the last couple of months, the bolts that connect the exhaust to the upper bracket have failed...they are simply sheared/split. The welded caps on the top of the exhaust are fine, and the bracket is fine. After getting it repaired (replacing the bolts), the bolts failed again after a weekend at the track. Full disclosure - I went off once, into the dirt, but I had done this a couple of times in the past with not trouble that I was aware of. However, I can also say, I have not routinely checked the exhaust mount system after each time that I would go off at the track, so it is possible this is simply related to that, and I am just now becoming aware that it is something I should inspect after each round on the track.

Would this make sense, or is something else possibly going on here?
