Carrera Cabrio Odometer/TripOmeter Problem

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

New here to the forum. Anyway, here's the issue ----

1999 Carrera Cabrio, 85K miles, 6sp. The odometer/tripometer isn't showing up on screen. I don't have the onboard computer for mileage, etc., just the basic instrument cluster. Speedo and all other dash functions work, only that one screen isn't supplying info. Last week I did have battery work done -- could this be a part of the problem? Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks!!

Welcome to RennTech :welcome:

Your car should have an odometer, but the display may be bad which is why you can't see it.  Changing out the display is not inexpensive, so if you can live without it........

Here are a few suggestions:

Is there more than one fuse for the cluster?  If there is, maybe one of them blew during the battery work.

There are three connectors at the back of the cluster, maybe one of them needs to be re-seated.  Here's a link to an article with instructions: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/90-ELEC-996_Cluster/90-ELEC-996_Cluster.htm  Go to the bottom of the article.  There is a picture illustrating the process.

Spare parts for replacing the center and right lcd's recently came on the market.  Here's some information:

http://986forum.com/forums/general-discussions/60992-fyi-new-replacement-lcds-now-available.html

I haven't seen parts for the left one, which unfortunately is the one you need.

Good luck.

I was wondering if the "disconnect the positive cable, turn the key over for a few seconds, then reconnect the positive cable" thing would work. It seems to be the fix for the 5999999 odometer reading, maybe it'll work with my inconvenience.....
