Durametric cam readings of 25 *crk

Recommended Posts

Hello,
I have searched, but didn't find much.  I have spent MANY interesting hours here, though!  A great group.

I have a '99 986 with 108k miles and quite a few codes.  I have been slowly whittling away at some, but these remain.  I just received a Durametric this afternoon, and the Actual Values shows the cam reading at 25*crk for BOTH banks 1 and 2.  These readings don't change.  Am I doing something wrong?  I have installed a new Cam Position Sensor on Bank 2, and have one to install on Bank 1 if it is even needed.  The engine runs just a little rough, but not that bad.  If codes are cleared, they reappear about 3 mins after running.  Any ideas/direction is GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you.

Pardon my newbieness to this, but would that be both actuators possibly failed?  Solenoids?

Couple of possibilities, both actuator's, or solenoid's. are jammed, or the engine has jumped time.  I can personally say that I've never seen this type of problem on both banks simultaneously, so you need to move forward with a diagnostics plan to evaluate the component's involved as "parts swapping" will get very expensive, very quickly...….

All plugs changed and broken wire found/fixed for the engine purge fan.  When I activate each bank's cam solenoid with Durametric I get a noticeable drop in RPMs, would that indicate they are working?
I just changed the #4 coil pack, but as soon as it hits roughly 180 degrees, the CEL comes on with a P0304.  Seems to start missing/running a little rough then.  That is the only code logging but these are pending:
P1324
P1340
P1319
P1316

I feel like I'm getting close, but any ideas greatly appreciated.  I'll check that #4 plug to be sure.

Looking at your fault codes looks like your chai has jumped, consequently putting your cam timing out of range of your cam sensor. Could also be a stretched chain or a malfunctioning chain tensioner. Try looking at the condition of your tensioners for signs of low tensioning pressure, as it could be enough to put your VVT out of range.

Thank you!  It has been at my indy's getting a few things done and timing has been reset.  Apparently, all codes are gone now, except a IACV found broken during a smoke test.  Of course, I get the IMS fears running through my head.
