I’m considering a 996 Cabriolet as my next car. I’m looking at cars with manual transmission, RWD with service history. I’ve done some research regarding known issues IMS bearing, rear main seal leaks etc. I’ve talked with owners at the local cars and coffee to get some first hand feedback. Is there a good resource that highlights what to look for when considering a 996?

Buck up for an independent Porsche inspection, rag tops don't hold their value as well as the coupes.  IMS will be already addressed, otherwise move on.   Look at Bring a trailer dot com and read the comments on various listings, I learned a lot there, otherwise you seem well on your way.

Thanks for the advise. Agreed that IMS is non negotiable. I like a convertible so that is also a must. I get the value consideration but after all we buy what we like. Will look at BAT. I didn’t think about that. Could also bring some insight to current values.

Besides the usual 996 maintenance items, I think when looking for a Cab the main thing to look at is the top condition and operation of the top.  So many horror stories regarding broken mechanisms and hydraulics.  Given that the 996 is approaching 20 years of age, you can expect that a cab may need a new top unless it has been stored in a climate controlled environment most of its life.  Even then, age takes a toll.
