RMS: Interesting pictures

Hi, in a german 911 Forum somebody posted very interesting pictures of the oil leaks in the 996/986 engines.

Don't worry, you don't need to understand the text, the pix are meaningful enough:

They clearly show that it's not only the RMS, but different other places also where oil can/will leak.

The author says that all the latest components are used (i.e. RMS and bolts).

Interestingly enough the RMS itself is leakproof.....

Having read the entire thread, I found the first comment most interesting: they will not be able to replace this owner's ("BigDaddy")RMS because PAG is scrapping all their existing replacement parts. The new parts will be available in August, and are expected to put an end to this problem once and for all.

We shall see.....

Hi Bavarian,

I doubt that PAG will be able to fix this permanently. In this case it seems they solved the RMS problem, but now it seeps somewhere else...

My engine was changed 10kkm ago and it's bone dry so far. Let's keep the fingers crossed. But the feelings remain mixed if I see those pix.

The leaking from the case bolts and the intermediate shaft bearing cover are nothing new... Porsche has attempted to address those areas in the latest technical information by using the new micro encapsulated bolts and whatnot.

But, I've never seen oil leak from above the seal before.

FWIW, the new RMS is simply the one from the 997. Freudenberg made the various versions for the 996, I don't know if they have changed supplier for the 997 (KACO?).

I have already seen an article in regards to a 997 RMS Leak. This thing is just blown out of proportion.

I have a 00 996 Carrera that is leaking and has 27k Miles on it. I also have a 99 Cab with 56K Miles and it is bone dry. Just the luck of the draw.

I will be doing a complete how to on the RMS in the next few days as I do my own. I will send you links.
