New top install

broken window we all know the story. I want to chang the top my self but would like a little info before i try it. i see about a year ago someone ask but no help. so ill try this year. Please if anyone has removed and installed a top please let me know how to do it.

Are you talking about the CAB top? If so this is a several man project and something you want to leave to the professionals for warranty purposes.

But without any info from you nobody can really offer up any help.

Yeah, I'd get professional installation. It's not a straight drop in and requires experience to make things work. You can get Ghia or Porsche top. Guess which one costs more! If yours was damaged by thieve or vandal, get insurance to cover a new Porsche top.

If you don't have the MY that is glass specific I would NOT retrofit a glass top. The way the mechanism retracts back into the trunk is just asking for trouble.

There is now a top that is being specifically designed for the older model Boxsters and it has a glass rear window that is the same size as the '03 and '04.

There was a very long thread on this site about the installation and how it fit and looks.

Actually I found it to be a very easy install. It takes a long time, about 3 hours off and three hours on for the new top, but it's straightforward and does not require any special tools.

The one area to watch is first-closing tightness. I would advise loosening the tension cables all the way (hex head adjustment bolts in the top compartment, easy to see, right down where the cables snap onto the little balljoints), then closing the top, then tightening the cables until you have it where you want it.

I bought my top through CabrioWorld online, but it is the GAHH top. I've been very happy with it so far.

Does anyone know whether the GAHH top will re-use my headliner? I've grown rather attached to the extra insulation and soundproofing, and don't want to give it up in exchange for a glass window.

while I don't have one so I can't comment from personal experience, I'm quite sure it will reuse the headliner, as I understand it the headliner attaches to the frame, not the canvas top, so nothing changes there, I think they even sell a new headliner for cars that didn't come with one

I have just received my new hood today for MY02. I know it is from the UK but it is one with a Glass conversion.The company is http://www.bas-international.com/

I paid £450 for mine and a trim shop is going to fit it for me for £150.

When done (after Easter) I will post some pics.

While putting on a new top or retrofitting the glass window top to an earlier year is not a job for the faint hearted it is doable.... Took me about three hours to take it off and two to put it back... I could do it in half the time now, had to be very careful first time around because the workshop manual instructions are reeeeealy bad so you need to look everything over carefully when removing

My car does have the headliner and it is in fact fastened to the hoops not the new top so it is just fine with no effect from the retrofit.

I do like the glass rear window but it's like looking at a movie in picturebox version... the view appears to be formatted to fit my screen... Guess I'll get use to that... Soemthing to think about for those that already have issues with visabilty out of the back window.
