Probably a dumb question, but I’m mid-install of the Rennline ignition coils and I got the matching hardware kit that goes with them.

The 2 longer bolts per coil make sense, but I’m confused on the 4 bolts and “spacers” that come with it. The kit says these are for the “exhaust heat shields”, but I’m not visually seeing where these would go or if they are even used on my car. I do have aftermarket bypass pipes and muffler so maybe that matters?

I don't recall Boxsters have heat shields. The engine is a Boxster faces 180 degrees from that in a Carrera so the exhaust does not pass by the cylinder head.

Here is a diagram of the 996 layout with the heat shields marked by the arrow.

Hey Loren! Miss seeing your name. Haven’t been on forum in a while. Your pic makes sense. Guessing they include the hardware for those, but are not used in my application.

good deal! now to finish chasing this pesky “chirp” I’m hearing post-install… sigh

A chirp is commonly a loose spark plug or an overtightened spark plug that is now cracked. If you have a scanner it should tell you which cylinder is miss-firing.
