Godawful Squeaking

Hi, there.

I currently have an incredibly obnoxious squeaking coming from the rear of the car. Unless the car is stopped or running on a perfectly smooth road, the noise is present. It sounds something like old bedsprings; almost as bad as styrofoam rubbed together (well, maybe not as loud).

The sound is far worse over bumps, but even accelleration/deceleration incite the darned thing.

One final hint: This started a few weeks ago then completely stopped. It's now back.

Any thoughts?

The most common case of (non-engine) noise in the rear of the car is the rear swaybar. Sometimes they can come loose and squeak or even thump. Since this is a new car have your dealer investigate it further. (I am assuming that you hae not made any suspension mods).

Have you driven the car really hard (e.g on the track?).

I have found that the mud guards behing the rear rotors to move towards the rotor with heat and then create horrible noise. I just use the handle of a hammer and press them back in and the noise goes away

Thanks for the replies. No track, no hard driving though. Sounds almost too "squishy" a sound to be metal.... Anything it might be in the convertible top mechanism?

I'll have the dealer check the rear sway bar, though...
