Which Opel/Vauxhall Sat Nav CD for PCM1?

Recommended Posts

I've read that if you have the later 16 bit version of PCM1 that you can use Opel/Vauxhall CDs to update the maps. I've had a look at the Navteq website and there are several different options for Opel/Vauxhall vehicles and they differentiate between EHU4/CD70 and SVDO Daytona systems. If anyone here has succesfully updated their maps using one of these CDs could they please let me know which one? It's the UK maps that I'm trying to update.

I can only relate to the information I found for you in our german forums:

Members were successfully using the 2005 Opel (Vauxhall) CDs with the PCM1. Some had to update their system software using the latest (2002) 8 CD set before they could use the Opel CDs. So I suggest you contact your local Vauxhall dealer and tell them what the problem is. Borrow the 2005 CDs and check if they are working in your car. Why would the do it? Because your a potential buyer of the CDs and most of all he can tell all his buddies that Porsche couldn't help you but HE could!

Personally I don't have a PCM in my car, I use the Becker Traffic Pro. So this is not based on personal experience. Good luck and let us know if it worked.

Regards,

Thorsten

Thanks, I've had a look on Ebay and found a German dealer that sells the 2005 Vauxhall maps and advertises them as being compatible with PCM1 (16 bit ) He's asking for £125 so I'll probably do as you suggest and try to 'borrow' a set to see if they work before spending any money!

I don't have PCM, but I'm wondering how do you know if you have the 16 bit version?

Paul,

To check that the navigation-unit is 16 bit the CD unit is removed to check the WAP number located on the rear of the unit. For 16 BIT it should be: 996.642.122.03 (996.642.122.00 to 996.642.122.02 is 8 BIT)

I've installed the Vauxhall/Opel GB/Ireland 2005 MapCD and it works just fine, I didn't need to update the PCM software, the CD Part No is T1000-8039.

Nic,

There has been a great deal of debate on this subject on the PCGB forum but you seem to be the first person who has had any success in the UK. Just a few questions.

Any chance you could give me the link to this dealer in the fartherland?

Was it as straight forward as you say and what sort of quality and accuracy does the maps have?

I know there are quite a few people in the UK that are interested in surmounting the problem (me included) so any help would be cool.

Here's the link to the Navishop Ebay store

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/VDO-Blaupunkt-Nav...storeviewQQtZkm

or you can just do a search for PCM 1 on Ebay.

They seemed to think that I might need a software upgrade before using the map CD and loaned me a Porsche upgrade CD. As it turned out I didn't need it because the new map CD worked just fine. My previous 2000-2 CD was unaware of my address (house is 400 years old!) or the new bypass round the village but the new maps showed it OK. I went on a 200 mile journey last weekend and the guidance was spot on. Not as good as Tom Tom 5 but a big it'll do!

Thanks Nic,

This is a big help. On the subject of upgrading, the disks you were loaned in case you needed them to upgrade - can you recall what disk they gave you?

If others try to use the V/O set and can't get it to run it may be useful for them upgrade using this disk.

Thanks in advance

The (only) important info is the Nav Software Version. It MUST be PONA642D. And this version will be installed with any of the 2002 Navigation CDs from Porsche. So if you already have this version the Opel/Vauxhall CDs will work just fine. If you have an older version you will need to get a Porsche CD to upgrade your PCM. That's it.

And the Opel/Vauxhall CDs you need are the ones for Siemens VDO.

Why I know this? I did this upgrade by myself just some weeks ago ;-) (Porsche 911 C4 Cabrio 4'02).

Bye,

Christian

I can confirm, did the upgrade yesterday from one of the Porsche 2002 Cds, anyone will do good. After that I can use the Opel 2005 Cds. You have the right CD if you have a folder tree structure on the CD when you look in your computer. I found everything needed at the Edonkey network.
