I posted this once before but i still have some questions. I just bought the car.. When the car reaches normal operating temp only on idle the oil pressure drops under 1 sometimes even turns on the low oil light for a second. If i give it a little bit of gas the pressure goes right back up to normal. I idle at 800 rmp-900 can a cloged oil filter cause this?

Check the oil level. Here is how the oil gauge should work on a typical 996:

Cold idle: 5 bar

Fully warm idle: 1.5 - 2 bar

Any engine speed above 3000: 4 bar+

If your oil level is fine, you may have a bad sending unit. These are not expensive and ae easy to replace.

1 bar is too low and the light should NEVER come on. What grade oil are your running? What year 996? Where do you live? How did you check your oil level?

Its a 2000 911 cab.. 32000 miles I live in Miami Beach Fl..

I know its a common problem with 1998 and prior but ive never heard of that happening on the 2000s..

My guess would be that the oil pressure is fine but you have a bad oil sending unit which is not that uncommon. I would pick one up at the dealer and replace myself. Make sure that the electrical connections are tight on the current sending unit. It is located near the fuel rail on bank 2 (passenger side) of the engine. The only other thing it may be as it seems low only at a warm idle, is that your engine is running extremely hot on too thin an oil. You should be running a 15W50 weight oil in your 3.4 living in Miami.

I changed the oil filter and the presure went up some so it looks ok now.. I'll probrably change the sender anyways do you have a pic of what it looks like on the engine? Also what is the normal operating temp in 80 deg weather?
