CDR-21 swap for a CDR-22

Recommended Posts

Hi, I got a 1998 986 with a CDR-21 that skips with CDs on any crack or bump in the road like crazy. I see I can get a CDR-22 from Porsche, and I'd like to try it out. I'd like to know if it's a straight swap-out, letting me use my original amp, or if it's a lot more hassle. Anyone got any info on this? I really would like to keep it as original as possible, maintaining the Posche logo. Thanks

It is a direct swap. In fact when the 22 (220 in the US) came out people were putting them in cars that came originally with the 21 (210 in the US) because the 22 has aux-in and the 21 does not.

The only thing is the 21 uses a metal mounting bracket that is not needed with the 22.

On mine there was a wire attached to the mounting bracket that needs to be taped up to stop the alarm unit chirping at you when you lock the car.

Thanks Paul. Did you replace yours with a becker or another brand? I would think that with another becker you would just plug the alarm cable in the replacement. Is there any other problem I should know about? I just had someone offer a deal on a CDR 23, but I've read somewhere that the it uses MOST connections and I would imagine that it would complicate things alot more than I would perfer. I just want a quick and easy Porsche replacement.
